Concept Introduction:
The magnetic moment of an electron results from its spin motion and orbital motion. The magnetic moment from its orbital momentum results when an electron moving in an orbital possesses a circulating current. The interaction of the spin motion of an electron with its orbital motion is called spin-orbit coupling.
