Introduction:

The seven cervical vertebrae, C1–C7, are the smallest and lightest vertebrae. The first two cervical vertebrae are the atlas and axis. The axis has a body and an unusual feature is the knob-like dens which projects superior from its body. Dens act as a pivot for the rotation of atlas.
