Say you have given the above schematic diagram of internal layout of a capacitor. Here, the dielectric constants are k1 = 50, k2 = 68, k3 = 68. The
plate area of the capacitor is A = 24 cm? and plate seperation is 20 mm.
a) Identify series and parallel connections and find the equivalent capacitance of the capacitor.

Give your answer up to at least three significance digits.
b) We want to replace three materials with just one material such that the eguivalent capacitance remains the same. Find the numerical value of
dielectric constant of the new material k'.
Value of k'
Give your answer up to at least three significance digits.
1) First part of the question: Two identical capacitors are connected in
parallel and charged with a 20-V power supply as shown in the figure on
the left. After the charges on the capacitors have reached their final values,
the charge on each capacitor is 10 µC. Then the power supply is
disconnected and a dielectric with K = 4 is inserted to fill the space
between the plates of one of the capacitors. a) Find now the charge on the
capacitor with dielectric. Give your answer in microcoulombs.

When we talk about capacitance of capacitor we normally say that capacitance depends on the size, shape, and position of the two capacitors and dielectric constant K. What then did we mean when we say that capacitance is constant in the equation Q = CV?
