Concept explainers
An alternate material might be “one-side galvanized,” where the low-carbon steel is dipped in molten zinc and the majority of the liquid is removed from one side by compressed air jets. The material is then subjected to an acid immersion to produce a zinc-free surface on one side and a zinc-coated surface on the other. Which surface would be most weldable? Would you want to put the zinc-coated surface to the inside or outside of your muffler. How might your welding design have to be modified?
