Recreational Logic “Arc You Smarter Than a 5th Grader?” is a popular television program that requires adult contestants to answer grade-school level questions. The show is hosted by Jeff Foxworthy.
Here is an arithmetic problem that many 5th grade students can solve in less than 10 seconds after the problem has been stated.
Start with the number 32. Add 46 to the starting number and divide the result by 2.
Multiply the previous result by 3 and add 27 to that product. Take the square root of the previous sum and then quadruple that result. Multiply the latest result by 5 and divide that product by 32. Multiply the latest result by 0 and then add 24 to the result. Take half of the previous result. What is the final answer?
