Summary Introduction

To review:

The given blank space in the statement, “three levels of biodiversity are___________, ___________, and ___________. If the population of a species becomes too small, it is likely to have lost much of its _____________ diversity.”

Introduction:

The term ‘biodiversity’ refers to the number of different varieties of species living on the earth. It includes plants, animals, microorganisms, as well as the entire ecosystem such as forests, national park, tiger reserve, bird sanctuary, and deserts. It is necessary to conserve the earth’s natural diversity because it is the basis for maintenance of the fauna and flora of ecosystem.

Explanation of Solution

There are three levels of biodiversity that exists in nature. They are species diversity, genetic diversity, and ecosystem diversity. The genetic diversity refers to the variety of genetic composition within a species. It means every individual of a species consists of the different genetic composition. Thus, it is necessary to conserve the different population of a species to conserve the genetic diversity.

Species diversity is defined as the variety of species of a particular region or habitat. Ecosystem diversity refers to the variety of ecosystem in a place. It means a variety of organisms interacts with the physical environment such as air, water, and soil. Due to overexploitation, some species are unable to reproduce effectively. Thus, the population becomes too small. This results in loss of genetic diversity.

Conclusion

Three levels of biodiversity are genetic diversity, species diversity, and ecosystem diversity. If the population of a species becomes too small, it is likely to have lost much of its genetic diversity.

The major threats to biodiversity include _______ ,_______ ,_______ ,_______,and_______ . For most endangered species,________is probably the major threat.
A(n) community is a group of species that occupy the same area. When studying the diversity of a group of species, ecologists use two measures: One is a count of the total number of species in the area, which is called The other is a measure of how common the species are, compared to each other, which is called
Imagine a community of organisms in a forest is affected by a chemical spill that leads to a fire. The fire is contained and burns out and the chemical spill is cleaned up. Monitoring of the plant community following this disturbance researchers noticed that after the spill and fire there was a sharp drop in species diversity, abundance, and richness. Over the next 5 years the area was monitored. The community's diversity, abundance, and richness all increased slightly during the first year however after the first year only the abundance went up during the following 4 years with no changes in any other area.
