Question
Chapter 14, Problem 123CP
Interpretation Introduction
Interpretation:
To calculate the hydroxide and hydronium ion concentrations, given the actual and goal pHs. This can be achieved by addition of calcium carbonate.
Concept introduction:
- Neutralization is the reaction between acid and base
- The pH relates the hydronium ions, which can be later related to hydroxide ions.
- Always ensure that the reaction is well balanced, and account for the
stoichiometric coefficients.
To determine: the hydronium/hydroxide ions in both pH points. The mass of calcium carbonate required.
