Concept explainers
To explain: Two ways to direct light waves around a corner.
Answer to Problem 1R
Interaction with objects and internal diffraction are the two ways through that anyone could direct a light wave around corners.
Explanation of Solution
Introduction:
A repeating movement (or disturbance) that transfers energy through space or matter is known as wave.
It is known that light wave bends (always) around corners to some extent. To direct a light wave around corners, use mirrors to change the direction of light and use glass or plastic cups (or any other obvious substances) to refract (or bend) light.
Conclusion:
Mechanisms that cause light wave to bend around a corner are interaction with objects and internal diffraction.
