Question
Chapter 1, Problem 43EQ
Interpretation Introduction
Interpretation:
The formal charge of P and C atoms in Ethylidene triphenyl phosphorane (an ylide) is to be calculated.
Concept Introduction:
Some organic
To calculate the formal charge on an atom in any given structure it is necessary to distinguish between the electrons that make up an atom’s octet and the electrons that formally “belong” to an atom. In any given Lewis structure all electrons associated with an atom either as an unshared pair or shared pair are part of that atom’s octet.

what is the complete lewis structure of acetic anhydride such that all atoms have zero formal charge?
Provide the structure(s) that result from the movement of the curvy arrows and include formal charges.
complete a Carvone Lewis structure that displays all valence electrons, all atoms and all the formal charges, if any. Use only a single dash for each pair of bonding electrons and a pair of dots for all nonbonding pairs of electrons.
Identify and label all functional groups (alcohols, amines, amides, carboxylic acids, ketones, aldehydes, aromatic rings, aromatic amines, etc) on the Lewis Structure. You do not have to circle alkanes. (Must be included in the preliminary submission and in the PowerPoint.)
