Expert Solution
Step 1

Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT) is a blood clot that forms in a deep vein, usually in the leg. DVT can occur as a result of several factors that slow down or change the flow of blood in the veins, such as immobility, injury to veins, hormonal changes during pregnancy, certain medical conditions such as cancer, heart failure, and autoimmune disorders, and genetics. In DVT, the blood clot can partially or completely block the flow of blood in the affected vein, leading to swelling, pain, and redness in the affected leg. If left untreated, the clot can break loose and travel to the lungs, where it can cause a potentially life-threatening condition called pulmonary embolism.
