Being a CNA is hard and taxing on people mentally and physically. It a tiresome job that turns most people off from the start. But, I do think joy can be found in this job. Most will say that being a CNA is like being a glorified butt wiper which I mean yes we do wipe butts but there is a lot more to the job then that. There is relationships that are built with the residents and patients that is unique to a CNA. My job is hard and sometimes I just want to throw in the towel. But then there's that moment that changes it all and makes you love the job even though it very hard. Being a CNA is all about the passion, relationships with people and hard work.

I am a CNA, I am the person who helps your loved ones, children and maybe even yourself with everyday aspects. I am the person who helps your grandmother get ready in the morning or helps your uncle eat his lunch. I am slapped, bit and yelled at more times than not. I change diapers and clean up vomit daily. I wake up early and stay up late to help you when you whenever you need me. With all of this hard and tiring work comes the rewarding parts. I get to play card games like Go Fish and learn new ones from the residents like Bridge. I sit and talk with residents and hear their stories from when they are young. I get to soothe your premature baby and sit with her as she heals and grows until she goes home. I play board games and color with children who are suffering from chronic illness and cancer. I hold your mothers hand as I tell her it’s okay to go and that she is so loved. I am a CNA, and though I may not be for long I put my entire heart and soul into it and love every second. I have long desired for the chance to work in a medical setting and working in an assisted living home has made me realize that the job comes with so much more than the job description entails.

The role of the Certified Nursing Assistant is defined as being the support system by helping patients in personal hygiene and daily living needs. A day in the life as a CNA (Certified Nurse Aide) can have its ups and its downs. As a CNA you can work in a couple different areas of the nursing field, you have options of where you want to be and you are not finite to any certain place. Most CNA’s start out working in a nursing home then exude to other places such as hospitals. As a nurse aide you have many options of being in a certain field of nursing. That is what I love about nursing; it is versatile and you can work wherever you want in the country. You can travel and see places you haven’t seen while doing what you love to do as a career.

In order to be an CNA one of the most important qualities is cmmuication and i say this because through your nursing assisant experience you must commuicate effectively with your patients,as well as the patients family members,doctors,nurses, and other staff members. Clear and concise wriiten information when reporting and documenting a patients information is also very important because it shows that your doing your job and two that you know what youre doing while doing your job.

Why would anyone be in the healthcare field? First, there are different types of positions available. Second, this is a very rewarding career for those who enjoy caring for others. Although, most people think there are a lot of differences between certified nursing assistants and licensed practical nurses, they share the same type of work, working conditions and job outlook.

First off I would like to say that I am a medical assistant and I have been since 2007, I enjoy my job and the people I work with. I think I have outgrown my profession, now I’m looking to advance and work on becoming a registered nurse.

Nursing, in my opinion, takes full commitment from someone. One must be knowledgeable, dedicated, and willing to help others at all cost. My mother is the greatest nurse I have ever encountered and has been my inspiration since I can remember. She has been a nurse for over 20 years and I have been captivated ever since. I was born to do this, to advocate and help others that are in need. Being able to apply the knowledge and skills learned in a real hands-on situation has given me the utmost motivation to fulfill my dreams of one day becoming a nurse. I was able to successfully complete my rounds of clinical hours as part of my nursing program at various locations and departments. I was assigned to MD Anderson, Harris County Psychiatric Center, and Silverado Memory Care Community, where I was able to work with many different types of patients and become acclimated to the environment. The duties in which I was able to preform varied location to location but included, head to toe assessments, insertion/removal of Foley catheters, medication administration, tube feedings, trachea suctioning, and numerous care plans just to name a few. I was able to interact with patients one on one as a student which has instilled confidence and reassurance in my future.

Certified nursing assistants are health care professional’s who are there for those who are sick or are unable to care for their self’s. CNAs are also known as orderlies, home health aids, patient care technicians, and many more. The job description that they are entitled to as a nursing assistant varies depending on the health setting that you are in. Many also have to work under the supervision of a Registered Nurse. With out the help of Certified Nursing Assistants the need for bathing, feeding, and dressing for many elderly patients could not be maintained.

The Certified Nursing Assistant program started this year with a new instructor, Karla Garrison RN BSN. Karla was previously one of the state board of nursing examiners and tested our students last year. After being impressed with our students and our program as well as the opportunity to make a difference Karla joined our team. Under her leadership we have transferred to a new curriculum and new text books that are more focused on meeting the Arizona state board exam requirements.

In some states these opportunities vary. They would work in Hospitals, physician offices, health agencies, nursing homes, and even in private homes (MSHealthCareer.org). Private homes are working in former patients houses and working for them. Physician offices are like doctors’ offices and you would have to call patients back, and do basic checks on them before the doctor comes in to see them. CNA’s also work with a lot of sick people and elderly patients which can increase the chances of getting sick lot and higher risks of getting bacterial diseases (BLS.gov). Working with a lot of sickly people the way CNA’s do gives you high risks or getting infections and sicknesses and diseases. This is why you are required to wear gloves and face masks to reduce your chances of getting certain infections. There are a lot of people in hospitals and a lot of doctors and nurses so you have to be able to handle working with a large number of people (CNACertificationSchools.com). CNA’s are constantly around people with the patients in and out of hospitals and doctors’ offices and all the nurses and doctors that are work associates. You need to be able to work with people and be compassionate towards all people. You would also need to learn how to handle certain situations that would happen in the workplace. Nurses will make several bonds and connections with the families and newborns they helped bring into the world.
