There are many different fields to choose from while working as a Registered Nurse. “Registered nurses work in hospitals, physicians' offices, home healthcare services, and nursing care facilities. Others work in correctional facilities, schools, or serve in the military.” (bls.gov). You can also specialize in a specific type of nursing by seeking employment in that individual line of work or by taking a certification test. “The Nursing2011 Salary Survey reports that nurses certified in a specialty earn an average of $10,200 per year more than nurses who are not.” (pncb.org). If you choose to go further with your education you can continue past a bachelor’s degree and get a master’s degree becoming a nurse practitioner.

In a perfect world, all of the units of a team work together. In the real world, many people know that this is not a perfect world. Therefore, if an individual becomes a CNA they will have the chance to make a real difference in the life of a person suffering from an illness, disease, or disability. People that become CNAs before becoming a nurse learn good communication skills with patients, families, and other healthcare staff. For instance, someone with CNA experience on their first day of clinical rotations, will already know what to expect because of prior CNA experience. Becoming a CNA is an excellent way to help determine if nursing is a good career choice for an individual, and nursing students who have some exposure to health care by being a CNA may seem to feel more comfortable when it comes to their nursing classes. . According to Campus Explorer (2015) being a CNA is proven to be beneficial when it comes to nursing clinical rotation (para 3).

I am a CNA, I am the person who helps your loved ones, children and maybe even yourself with everyday aspects. I am the person who helps your grandmother get ready in the morning or helps your uncle eat his lunch. I am slapped, bit and yelled at more times than not. I change diapers and clean up vomit daily. I wake up early and stay up late to help you when you whenever you need me. With all of this hard and tiring work comes the rewarding parts. I get to play card games like Go Fish and learn new ones from the residents like Bridge. I sit and talk with residents and hear their stories from when they are young. I get to soothe your premature baby and sit with her as she heals and grows until she goes home. I play board games and color with children who are suffering from chronic illness and cancer. I hold your mothers hand as I tell her it’s okay to go and that she is so loved. I am a CNA, and though I may not be for long I put my entire heart and soul into it and love every second. I have long desired for the chance to work in a medical setting and working in an assisted living home has made me realize that the job comes with so much more than the job description entails.

A day in the life as a CNA (Certified Nurse Aide) can have its ups and its downs. As a CNA you can work in a couple different areas of the nursing field, you have options of where you want to be and you are not finite to any certain place. Most CNA’s start out working in a nursing home then exude to other places such as hospitals. As a nurse aide you have many options of being in a certain field of nursing. That is what I love about nursing; it is versatile and you can work wherever you want in the country. You can travel and see places you haven’t seen while doing what you love to do as a career.

Being a CRNA is very interesting to me, so I think I would consider getting into the field as a nurse anesthetist. When I get older, I would like a stable job, with benefits, and a good paycheck, because I would like to have a family and live life some what worriless. The money is great. CRNA’s can earn more than many primary care physicians, with less of the education and training required. That is also important because I don’t want to spend twelve years in college just to become something great, when I can go to school for seven. Schooling isn’t a big issue, but if I could make very decent money for almost half the time of going to college, I think that is a great deal. Also, the job growth outlook is excellent. Whenever an anesthesiologist is needed, a CRNA is as well. Therefore, the demand for CRNA’s is only going to increase, because anesthesiologist jobs are increasing. One pro is, being able to help people. Some are in it just to help people and cure them of their sickness. Just to be able to help someone is an enjoyment to them. CMAs can work anywhere, between nursing home facilities, offices, and hospitals of course. Some build relationships with their patients and some may say that isn’t a pro but it isn’t good to just be rude and dull to a patient. It’s better to be happy and optimistic around a patient. You can be certified to work in any state. Instead of being tied down to one state only, the certification allows the person to work anywhere across the country. You work regular hours. Unlike some workers in the medical profession: nurses, doctors, etc. CMAs get off at the exact time that’s on their schedule, no overtimes or anything and they know their schedule. There are plenty of jobs. The field is to grow at least by 23% by 2022. The drawbacks of becoming a CMA is it can be very tiring. Especially working in a hospital or a nursing home, the patients could be a little too much or extremely sick and they may need extra care and that may be tiring. Some CMAs should perform both administrative and clinical duties which can become very frustrating and overwhelming. Another drawback is the pay rate and the amount of schooling. CMAs typically receive lower wages than most medical professions and do about the same amount of schooling as doctors and nurses and doing much more, they don’t get much at all. A CNA has to work at least 8 hours in a span of 24 months to maintain their license. Within the 8 hours then CNA has to complete task within their scope of practice. RN’s are registered nurse, they give the CNA task to complete and are basically the bosses of the CNA. The RN can go to college for 4 years to receive their BSN or they can go to community college and receive there Associates degree in nursing. Most nursing jobs these days require a BSN.

Learning to becoming a CNA was the greatest opportunity and experience I could have done for myself. It has changed me as a person and as a caregiver. I have built amazing relationships with my residents non like any other. They have become my family. Because of my residents, I have learned a great lesson. The best way to give the best quality care is to treat people as if they were family; and that is what has brought me to become a great certified nursing assistant. Becoming a Critical Care Nurse requires a lot of hard work and preparation, including more than 4 years of college education (6 total) to receive a bachelor’s degree in nursing.
