Jesus Rodriguez CIVE 302 Section 2 2/1/2024 Lab #1 Report Purpose: The purpose of this lab is to test the tensile strength of a hot rolled and a cold rolled steel coupon, to see the differences between them and how each one could be used in different situations. List of Materials: Tinius-Olsen Testing Machine 2 steel coupons, 1 hot rolled and 1 cold rolled. Digital Caliper Procedure: 1. Measure the diameter of each coupon with a digital caliper. 2. Attach 1 st coupon to Tinius-Olsen testing machine run till failure. 3. Repeat with 2 nd coupon. 4. Data will be stored on file from computer
Results/Analysis/Calculations: Hot Rolled Yield Stress (ksi) = 2.067538049 kips Yield Strain = .08931 Member-end-stiffness K at yield = 10.384 / .08931 in = 116.2692 Modulus of Elasticity = 2.067538049 / .08931 = 23.15012931 Strain at First Hardening = .00701 Ultimate stress (ksi) = 3.02007099 Ultimate strain = .75772 Member-end-stiffness K at ultimate = 15.168 / .75772 in = 20.0179 Strain Ductility = .75772 / .08931 = 8.4842 Modulus of toughness (ksi) = 15.168 * .75772 = 11.4931
