The growth plate or epiphyseal plate is the area where new growth occurs. It is made up of flexible and rubbery material called cartilage. This plate is found at the ends of long bones found in the thigh, lower legs, forearm, hands, and feet.
Several hormones like growth hormones, sex hormones are all involved in bone growth, maintaining bone, and bone remodeling. This growth will last till the person reaches adulthood. During adulthood or puberty, this growth plate will be replaced by an epiphyseal line, and this process is called epiphyseal closure or growth plate fusion.
