Short syntheses for both compounds are given in image.
a)Nitration of the aromatic ring followed by acid catalysed
reduction gives amine. Then Sandmeyer reaction for
yielding diazonium salt followed by reaction with Cul gives
iodo compound.
Pd catalysed Heck coupling of this iodo compound with
styrene will give the desired product.
b)o-nitration of toluene followed by Friedel crafts acylation
(using AICI3) for introducing carbonyl group.
Selective reduction of Nitro using Hydrogen and Pd on C
will give amine. This amine will undergo Sandmeyer
reaction forming diazonium salt and then using CuCl, chloro
will be placed hence giving required product.
