Expert Solution
Step 1

Fats are esters of fatty acids that serve as an energy reservoir for the human body. The process by which fatty acids are cleaved to derive energy is known as the beta-oxidation of fatty acids. Fatty acids are broken down to acetyl CoA which are further broken down into chains of fatty acyl CoA. Mitochondria is the site where beta-oxidation takes place inside the cell. During the fatty acid synthesis, the acetyl CoA with the help of NADPH and other enzymes is converted to fatty acids. The cytoplasm is the particular site for this synthesis inside the cell.
