Ymca Scholarship Project

I was inspired by the representatives to work in a more challenging position. On the first few student council meetings I went to this year I saw the representatives working hard together and I wanted to be a leader like them to someday. I want to fulfill that goal as soon as possible.

I have been a member of seven different clubs during my time at CHS, and I am currently involved in three, (Chelan Project, Interact, FBLA). I am also a member of the National Honor Society, and I am the ASB executive secretary. I have a total of __ community service hours from a variety of events. I also give up my last class of the day and most Sunday mornings to do an unpaid internship with my church. Serving and giving back to the community is one of my biggest passions, and I do this any way that I can. Attached is the list of events and hours that make up my community service portfolio. As far as sports go, I have participated in cross country, basketball, and track. I've lettered every year of high school track, and I went to state for the 4x2 relay my freshman year.

I joined the Interact Club my junior year and became the secretary my senior year because I thoroughly enjoyed the work the club did, which was helping others in the community. As the Secretary for the Interact club, I organize and attend events. We help raise money and awareness for cancer with Pasta for Pennies and Relay for Life events. In the past year one of my biggest accomplishments was planning and being involved in an event called How To Life. It was attended by 750 High School and Junior High Students. It had music, videos, skits, and games, and I was one of three students that spoke at the event. I also qualified to go to FBLA finals in Chicago this past summer which was an experience I will never forget. My short term goals in education are to maintain my high cumulative GPA and complete all of my general education classes, so I can graduate from community college with honors, in spring of 2016. Career wise, I want to complete my low division classes and prerequisites to be able to transfer to a university in the next year, where I can pursue my bachelor's degree in computer engineering. My short term goals for service/volunteerism is to continue participating in school clubs at Mesa college where I participate in the majority of their service events. I also want to continue my leadership position as President in Phi Theta Kappa and serve the Honors club and any other school club with anything I am capable of.

Since the beginning of Middle School I have been on student council. In sixth grade I was secretary, seventh grade I was a cabinet officer, and in eighth grade, I am currently a cabinet officer. Every year I have strived to make the school a better and improved place for student to thrive in. I have chosen to participate in National Honor Society and Key Club because they are both service clubs that allow me to contribute and give back to my community. In both clubs, much of what we do is volunteering and assisting around the community. I chose to participate in Student Government because of the many opportunities I would have to demonstrate leadership and be involved in my local community. Another leadership activity that I participated in was LINK, a service club dedicated to welcoming and guiding incoming Freshman to high school. I joined this club because this was a unique experience to practice leading groups, talking to large groups, and the club seemed fun and interesting. I also enjoy dancing and playing tennis, which lead me to join the tennis team and the dance company at Smoky Hill High School. As a member of dance company, I had the opportunity to choreograph a dance, audition dancers, and teach my choreography for a dance showcase. I joined this activity because of my passion for dance and the opportunity to teach my choreography to other dancers. I chose to join the tennis team because it was a fun way for me to be active and make new friends. Next Generation Voices is a culture club that expresses Asian cultures through dance. The community service project I am most proud of is my senior project. I planned and ran a youth baseball clinic. I am most proud of this because I had a chance to work with kids who reminded me of my younger self. It was great to reconnect with why I love the game of baseball while helping someone younger with their baseball skills. Another program I’ve been involved in is the Ashland Football programs, Rent-A-Player program. Rent-A-Player is a service for people who live in Ashland that need help doing miscellaneous jobs. I have been involved in student congress since I was in elementary school. I always liked being a leader and helping improve my school. Student congress at Lisle has been a key facet of the improvements and developments within our community. We frequent meetings with the administration of our school to discuss how we can make high school experience optimal for all. In addition, our funds expand beyond the need of dance decorations and a good DJ, we orchestrate many charitable fundraisers that help our community. My best memory of student council is when I was in eighth grade. We lead of fundraiser for the Normal Moments charity which gave gifts to less fortunate families that were affected by terminal disease. That year, we decided to beyond

My goals for this year are to get good grades so i can be a doctor or join the F.B.I’s B.A.U, be there for anyone who needs help or just needs a friend, and stop bullying so the students at Lyman Hall can become even closer as a family. All my life the only thing i ever wanted to do was to help and protect others, friends, foes, or strangers, I don’t care. I love and care about every single soul on this planet equally. And if i achieve these goals i might just be able to do that!

Community Activities: I have completed many hours of community service throughout my high school education. Last summer and fall I participated in Summa Health System’s Teen LEAD Volunteer Program. I completed curriculum that focused on Character Education, Career Exploration and Leadership Development. I volunteered in the Internal Medicine Center and the Detox Unit. Also, I am part of my school’s service club, Key Club, where various service projects are organized both afterschool and on the weekends. In addition to the Teen LEAD Program and Key Club, I volunteer in my church as a deacon, bell choir member, volunteer for the children’s program and Habitat for Humanity and I attended a mission trip to Asheville, NC last summer.

As a member, I work with other students to impact the community through service while developing leadership skills. This year, we organized a December project where we spent a Friday night hanging out with high-functioning autistic teenagers at a community center called E's Club. Prior to volunteering, we also raised money for the foundation for their efforts to open a new location. We will also be planning another big service project this spring.
