Question: What were the most critical choices faced by James Milmo early in the founding of Lynx? Do you agree with his decisions? I believe the most critical choices faced by James Milmo in the early years of Lynx were: 1. Partnership with Doug Curtis I do not believe Milmo made a good decision partnering with Doug Curtis to start Lynx. Milmo never had a great confidence and rapport with Doug Curtis. After the failure of the real estate idea Milmo mentioned that “I didn’t love the guy and I had to think hard about it …………”, that shows he never really believed in Doug but went ahead with Dough relying on Dougd’s experience with VC. Although Doug was considered a “veteran entrepreneur” he did not contributed to Lynx as mush as a …show more content…
As the idea and concept on which Lynx is build upon was of Milmo he should have strived for a much higher equity than Doug and should not have divided the equity equally among the founders. AlthoughI agree with his decision of making the equity of Curtis and Pascal vest over two years so as to keep Curtis and Pascal focused on the job. 4. Continuing with his MBA at Harvard. I believe Milmo made a very good decision to get into Harvard the second time and finish one sementer and then left to pursue his idea. It was a right choice as it kept the Harvard MBA option open for Milmo as if he would not have joined Harvard the second time, it was pretty much a closed door for him. 5. CEO structure I believe Milmo made a big mistake in defining the organization structure and did not clearly defined the roles and responsibilities of the founders. Ideally all the founders should have taken the roles which are their primary strengths and should have clearly defined the decision making structure. Although Milmo mentioned that the “triumvirate” structure worked for them but I believed it also let to several confusions for the employees and as Lynx expanded this confusion increased more and more. Apart from confusion, I believe making Doug CEO didn’t resulted in making best use of his expertise in sales. 6.
Right there was the opportunity to negotiate which would have helped Mr. McAleer from putting the company in a huge debt that kept the company from growing for the following ten years.
The company is in need of a turn around plan to gain the advantage over their competitors. The company is under two different investigations to find out if the company bribed officials overseas from Latin, and China. Jung is working on a long-term plan to fix the problems that the company is suffering from today. Jung is determined to build a plan to help Avon recover from the missteps the company has suffered from by the first quarter. Jung was giving overseas managers too much independence. This caused Jung to lose the organizational structure of the companies overseas. Instead of trying to grow as a company "the managers were designing products that would benefit their own divisions." (Jones, G. R. & George, J. M. (2011). Contemporary Management: A Manager 's Challenge. New York, NY McGraw-Hill/Irwin.) Designing their own product caused more work for the managers and the managers would hire more people not thinking about the outcome of the company paying out more money for the extra managers they hired. The managers were not using the resources the company had and had caused some of the drop in profits. The decisions on hiring management should be a global decision, in which Jung is prepared to change. The company still supports Jung and the decision 's that she is making so she can gain the advantage of their competitors and repair the problems at the Fortune 500 Company. Jung still remains CEO of Avon today.
You can judge a society by its treatment of the old, the weak, the helpless and the needy. Through the narrative conventions of foreshadowing and characterisation, John Steinbeck, in his novel Of Mice And Men, published in 1937, is able to effectively reveal the imperfections of America’s capitalist
Of Mice and Men was written during a period of racism. In the 1960's it was important for everyone to get along with eachother because not everyone was equal. George and Lennie showed a great part in friendship throught the whole book. At the ranch in Selinas mostly everyone showed friendship in some way. Friendship was a great factor when the book was published because of all the racism going on at the time.

Of Mice And Men The novel ‘Of Mice and Men’ reveal life in the 1930’s. A time very diverse to ours. Steinback, the author of this novel wrote about various issues such as lifestyle of the travelling ranchmen, loneliness, friendship, the American dream, racism and sexism. The book is about two migrant labourers, George Milton and Lennie Small in California.
Messier was dedicated to Americanizing the firm, taking away from its French heritage. When Messier decided to sell off Vivendi Environment, the parent company’s most profitable business, to finance a deal with USA Networks he continued to transform the firm into a media first business neglecting the firm’s water supply roots. Now the parent company was left with debt and many overvalued assets. Vivendi Universal would eventually have to write down significant amounts due to excessive goodwill estimates from acquisitions. Messier was stubborn. He declared that these loses were not reflective of the company’s sound operations and tried to blame Lescure, the decision-maker for Canal Plus, for the parent company’s business failure, deeming Canal Plus as a tumor for Vivendi Universal. All in all, Messier was adamant in keeping to the story that his firm was in good financial position, and, because he had the support of board members (who he had initially appointed), others believed this story as well. His persistence in growing the business fogged his perception of reality—he was managing a failing business. It is clear that Messier did a poor job as CEO.
The Iberian Lynx is the most endangered feline species, and I want to help it. I can not do this alone so ask you to read my letter and think about helping the Iberian Lynx. I know I am just a sixth grader, but these innocent creatures are disappearing and I feel we could do something about it if we realize this is a problem.
All of these issues are summed up in Thompsons (2008) assertion that Groves was the right man to grow the business but not the right man to manage the business, had the right manager been in place then the organization may have been able to turn its fortunes around.
The story Of Mice and Men took place during the 1930’s. That time period was very different from today. Race and gender were very important characteristics that determined whether a person had the opportunity to make money. The 1930’s were also a time where people started questioning life and the American culture. Many people like John Steinbeck thought that life was very unfair and questioned whether if life was even worth living. In Of Mice and Men John Steinbeck demonstrates that mans dream is destined to be destroyed by a cruel reality.
At the beginning he was told to report to Jenkins, however, once he got to the site he was assigned to Jeff Hardy. After the company reorganization, he found himself wondering whether he should report to Knight or Hardy. However, despite the confusion, he never brought up this question to Hardy, Jenkins or Knight. He perhaps then fell into the trap of a “bosssubordinate relationship” and went with the structure he felt was assigned without truly understanding its reasoning. ii. He didn’t take enough time to understand HQ’s perspective on various issues a. Replacing the chief engineer, rejecting frequency reuse patterns, or failing to get sign off on agreements for GMCT cell sites indicate failures in managing upward management relationships. Problem #2: Employee Dynamics Strengths 1. Peterson was committed to building an empowering environment for employees. i. Peterson called weekly construction meetings, which invited all to report on the company’s weekly progress and issues. Shortcomings 2. He failed to consider alterations in team dynamics when making hiring and salary decisions. i. He hired Trevor at a higher salary rate to the resentment of other employees, causing significant damage to the trust and respect between employee and manager.
5. Could Vivek have further developed the concept with the Fleetcenter and others before going for a deal with MSG and venture capitalists? How so?
I think when a leader makes a decision on complex issues; there is a process for a leader to engage in. This process, often, consists of specific skills; such as problem and decision making skills. It offers a leader to produce an effective, robust method to deal with complex issues. This enhances the quality and effectiveness of achieving good results. Where as, the Malcolm Baldrige helps organizations to achieve high standards on the quality and the performance of an organization, as it foster the competitiveness of the industry. Furthermore, organization holds on to the paradigm and excels for success in the same industry. More so, it is evident when reviewing the financial status of a company. While on the surface Peggy Sinclair, the General Manager, thought that she was being rewarded, it did not take longer than one day on the job to realize she was being set up. She had authored a "staff study which concluded that Old Man Morris 's new strategic plan had a fatal flaw" (Blanchard 2). Though he had admitted there
The challenges CH2M leadership faced was they were not growing their employees very well. They had many vacancies in key leadership positions that could not be filled internally, and typically, acquisitions were the source of the resources for their key positions. Employees were leaving because they saw no opportunity for advancement, and overall, the company was not able to compete for projects because they did not have the talent or expertise to win jobs.
