The work of the researchers above caused me to make some important connections to my current experiences as a teacher. As pointed out by Gregg (2002) and Purcell-Gates (1989), my fourth grade SLD have similar frustration struggles. They have great difficult finding the words to express themselves and give up on the task or ask to do something else. In one instance, one of them asked if he could draw instead of talk or write about a topic. When asked why, he said that he knows what he wants to say but does not know the correct words and doesn’t want to be mocked by peers. It was amazing to see how his drawing depicted exactly what the task required. There is no doubt that teachers can do more to aid SLD oral and written language if we are
If Ms Skloot had not been a part of the story, the book would not have been as interesting. Ms. Skloot's inclusion to the life of the Lacks family allowed the viewers to be in her shoes. The readers were able to see through the eyes of the author, as she goes on the quest to earn the trust from the Lacks and later on show the world that Hela wasn’t just a world changing cell but a person with a family and a life. The faith healing scene in page 289 would also have felt different because Skloot's existence in the scene gave it a feeling of bond that she had made with Deborah and Gary. Some other scene that made a difference because of her presence is in chapter 6. She was so eager to connect with the Lacks family. Skloot constantly calls
Hi! In this discussion, we’ll look at how a DSLR camera works and how the light travels inside a DSLR camera. First, we’ll look at the cross-sectional view of a DSLR camera. That means if you take a camera and cut it open through the center and look at it from the side this is how it looks like. And it’s called the side cross-sectional view. Now let’s see what are the elements that are inside the camera. These are the lens elements. Those are the glass pieces inside the lens. These are just representational and there could be multiple glass pieces or lens .Elements in the lens based on what kind of lens is being used. Behind the lens, we have the mirror. The mirror is at degree angle and behind the mirror is the sensor unit. That is the light sensitive part inside the DSLR. In front of the sensor unit is the shutter unit. The shutter unit inside the DSLR camera is made up of two parts. The first is the front curtain and the second one is the rear curtain. The shutter unit inside the SLR is called a focal plane sector because the shutter always travels parallel to the film plane in
As I previously mentioned in the past paragraphs, I have English learners in the classroom, for that reason I decided to focus on several SDAIE strategies throughout the unit. Those strategies are visuals, graphic organizers, gallery walk, and sentence starter/frames. The use of visual aids including kinesthetic delivery of the lesson creates a real experience for the students and a real model of what they are learning about. The use of various SDAIE strategies will be incorporated, including but not limited to speaking slowly, providing individual assistance, and scaffolding. The SDAIE strategies are helpful for all of the students in the class because most of the students come from Spanish speaking homes and they struggle with the language. In order to provide extra support to Els, I designed the unit with lots of group work and pair sharing which is very helpful for Els, because it allows them to participate and become engaged with the content verus having to work alone. These accommodations for learning and assessment tasks provide students with access to the curriculum and allow the students to demonstrate their learning through a variety
I have shadowed two physicians during my pre-medical years. These experiences have significantly shaped the type of physician I want to be in the future. Not in the sense of a medical specialty, but rather in the sense of demonstrating a clear compassion and understanding for my patients.
I am the founder and president of the SADD (Students Against Destructive Decisions) Chapter at my school, and I've helped create SADD chapters at other middle and high schools in multiple school districts. Currently, there are about 40 students in my SADD chapter. I started my SADD group my freshman year, so I have been involved with my SADD group for almost three years now.
I have been on the UTD School of Natural Science and Mathematics Dean's List for every semester I have attended UTD. This is awarded to full-time students with a GPA in the top 10%.
Hello my dear friend! I hope you are doing well. I am just writing to let you know that I finally started my semester at STCC. As you know, I missed the last two semesters due to situations that got out of my hands. I have a new job, but I also switched to Liberal Arts. At the moment, I am enrolled as a full-time student. My husband says I might regret it, because it can get overwhelming for me due to the language barrier, and having too much in my plate. Although, he might be right about having too much; I will do my best to finish this semester with good grades. One of the classes I signed up to is History-110, section E80. My professor’s name is John Diffley. I do not know him yet since it is my first week in school, but he seems to love
There can be several different reasons why an English Language Learner can have troubles comprehending the English language. Poverty can play a huge role when in explaining why many English language learners have the troubles in mastering the English language. The State testing has varied throughout the years, along with the degrees of assessments and progress. Teachers also need constructive feedback to properly assess their own progress. The increase prescription of ADHD medication can also be a factor. Programs like SLADI in effect that pulls ELL’s from mainstream classrooms to focus on advanced grammatical structures of the English language; all in which, have been unsuccessful in aiding the student to acquire mastery within the English language domains of reading and writing. Comparing a personal experience I had dealt with wasted school year time, regarding an ELL student, involves a teacher being out of touch with her student and giving inappropriate leveled work. All of these issues work hand in hand. The ultimate goal is to teach literacy and to reach proficiency within the English language.
This semester I learned a lot about writing in English 151. It has been a roller coaster ride with these essays for me this semester. I learned step by step how to write a good essay and how to have your readers be engaged in what you’re trying to tell them. Each essay I did has taught me something valuable I can take to the next level of English. I feel as if as the semester went by I did not take my writing that seriously and that reflected in my grades I received in each essay. It made me a better student and writer and it will reflect next semester. In this essay, I will reflect on what I learned throughout this semester that you should apply in your writing when you begin English 151.
Loma Linda University School of Medicine integrates health, science, and Christian faith. While exploring the curriculum and programs that are offered on the school website, I have learned that within the four years of attendance the first two years will consist of the study and application of basic medical sciences as well as a religion course while the third and fourth years consist of clinical clerkships which will take place at Loma Linda University Medical Center, Jerry L. Pettis Memorial VA Medical Center, Riverside County Regional Medical Center and many other locations. I have also learned that LLUSM encourages students to incorporate God into conversations with patients unlike other medical schools within the
Pedagogues play highly important roles in the fostering of speech and language for young children, particularly for those who may have a disability in this area of processing and cognition. Teachers actually serve a multitude of purposes in this respect. They act as models of proper language and speech, helping children to see and listen to how people talk and how the children themselves should one day speak. They also serve as coaches, and utilize a variety of methods to coax understanding of language and of speech from children themselves. Additionally, they function as facilitators who provide a variety of different mechanisms and means to initiate understanding in children, both of what it is the child wants and a comprehension of what the teachers expect for the children to do as a result.

Communication is very crucial in life, especially in education. Whether it be delivering a message or receiving information, without the ability to communicate learning can be extremely difficult. Students with speech and language disorders may have “trouble producing speech sounds, using spoken language to communicate, or understanding what other people say” (Turkington, p10, 2003) Each of these problems can create major setbacks in the classroom. Articulation, expression and reception are all essential components for communication. If a student has an issue with articulation, they most likely then have difficulty speaking clearly and at a normal rate (Turkington, 2003). When they produce words, they
Over these past few weeks, I have learned many valuable writing skills that I will be able to take with me as I enter my sophomore year of high school. I’ve learned how to be an active reader using annotating. I’ve become a critical and analytical writer that can assert a position in a controlled and presentable manner. Finally, I am able to incorporate media sources and current events into my writing using credible sources. One of the biggest personal changes I’ve experienced in this class is a broader perspective. By watching TED talks and reading ATDPI, I’ve learned about topics I would have never thought about on my own. I learned about what life is like outside the United States in the TED talks by Kim Yong Jim and Malala’s father. I also
Recently in Journalism class, we watched the movie titled Spotlight which was based on the story of the 87 priest molestation cases that occurred in Boston alone. This movie followed a team of Journalists, the Spotlight Team, who worked for the Boston Globe. This team tracked down 87 molester priests and cultivated a story to bring attention to the issue. While there were a lot of important concepts highlighted in this movie, the three main concepts of the film were on why this issue has been happening for such an exaggerated period of time, preposterous events can occur in the most unexpected places and that vulnerable people are effortlessly taken advantage of.
