The scientific endeavor helps us become more educated citizens so that we are able to approach data presented by political candidates with a healthy dose of skepticism by providing them with the tools needed. Critical thinking skills are important to have when viewing any new data in order to really understand the date presented, instead of just trusting the biased opinion of the one presenting the data. In chapter 1 of Psychology: Core Concepts, it provides a list of six critical thinking skills that are based on six specific questions.

My interest to study psychology at university become more enhanced when I began to watch CI (crime investigation) on TV and it's through this I watched a documentary about a lady called Brigitte Harries who killed her father because she was abused by him since she was young and this affected her mental state. By watching and reading about Brigitte Harries, it made me question the human mind even more, and ask questions as to how well do we really know ourselves? This made me want to search for answers in that aspect of things. What I really enjoy most about psychology is that for every type of behaviour it has held a different argument for it.

However I was surprised to learn that psychology also refers to love, stress, wisdom, and more topics that allows one learn more about themself. I chose to do this for the same reason others majoring in psychology do: we have a yearning to help and provide love and comfort to people. Our motives for doing this may come from different places but our goals are all relatively the same. We just want assist people. With the education I achieve, I want to be able to guide people from all walks of life through difficult times. I want to be able to help them get their life back together again and continue living instead of getting stuck in the past, or constantly worrying about the inevitable. I have studied not only Psychology in school but also English Language and Literature, all of these subjects will help me in my field of study. Psychology is based on the study of the mind, enabling a helpful starting point for studying Criminology. In psychology 101 our most recent exam was on developmental psychology and how our personalities were created. It was a scantron exam in our lecture hall. We were tested on our knowledge of the scientist that brought together that certain type of psychology branch and the history of how methods have improved throughout the years of research leading to today. I used the timer strategy for studying with my flashcards that I had made while looking over our PowerPoints that were given in class. Not only did this give me a nice break so I wouldn’t get too fried out, but also it helped me remain focused and helped me to soak up the information better than just keeping it in my short-term memory.
