Growing up my father taught me many life lessons; one that I will never forget was when he told me: “A man living in a house without light will never know where he is going or what he wants to do.” At the time I did not understand what that meant until one day he explained in to me. Without proper goals a person is just lost in darkness and unable to find their way in life. By working towards my goals, I feel that I am constantly growing as an individual and learning how to approach all sorts of situations that life throws at me. Recently, being a part of the EOF Nursing School Program at Rutgers University, I feel that I have just set the foundation to achieving my goals which include graduating with my Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing alongside one day opening a home for the less fortunate in Guyana. From the time I began school I knew that I wanted to become a nurse, however, it was not fully encouraged because my family had very low income and in Guyana, if you …show more content…
It was stressed to me how this would be a life changing experience. I did not realize at the time, but coming to America has been a life changing experience for me. I have so many more opportunities here than I could have ever had growing up in Guyana. As a child, I observed so much poverty in the town in which I lived. Apart from not being able to receive a proper education, I also noticed how hard it was to receive proper medical attention if one did not have money. There was an excess amount of people who were sick but could not receive the proper treatment of medicine due to financial issues. Hardly anyone could afford healthcare and there is no such thing as insurance there. Every time someone had to visit the doctor, they had to pay cash and it was not cheap, thus leaving a lot of people were deprived of healthcare. After attaining my Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing, my goal is to open a clinic in

I also was picked to join the national honor society in my school as I have the highest GPA. I believe that I can truly express my individuality at this university, and hope to bring something new like I did in my high school and in

Living close to campus gives me the ability to be completely immersed in the college lifestle, therefore, allowing me to have the chance to join various clubs and the chance to use the many resources that will advance my academic career. Being able to join a club here at Rutgers will help me be able to feel like a Rutgers student. Planning my career and setting up goals beyond being a bedside nurse was not an easy step. It was finalized/ concreted by the influence and support of friends and my family
My College and Career goals include graduating college and getting a job. I wish to attend the University of Alabama. I plan to major in occupational therapy or speech therapy. After I graduate with my bachelor's degree I wish to get my master's degree. After I finish my schooling I want to receive a job that allows me to provide for my family. I wish to receive this job in my degree's field. After receiving this job I wish to improve to reach a leadership role.
My experiences have provided me with the ability to devote myself to the wellbeing of others and being able to adapt to many situations. In addition to these experiences, I am very dedicated to my goals and I know that becoming a nurse requires much commitment. A career in nursing will be more than a career for me - it will be a lifestyle and it is who I am. It means assisting my community, having a new perspective on life and a profession that will make an impact. Becoming a nurse is a conscious choice that has been cultivated from my personal desires and experience. This will allow me to do what I love anywhere I go. For these reasons, the Eileen Doran Esler Changing Lives Scholarship will help me achieve my education and goal of becoming a nurse. Certainly, a career nursing will be challenging, but with clear set goals in mind, I know that I can achieve great things with great
As I sat on the couch getting ready for the first day back at school, I heard the phone in the kitchen ring. I stood up to go answer it and I heard loud footsteps coming down the stairs. My mother was running down the stairs to answer it just in case it was one of her work calls. I noticed that her voice started to crack as if she was going to cry and the smile that she once had on her face had disappeared. The person on the other end of the phone was my Uncle Dylan from California calling to let us know that Aunt Liz had died in a car wreck. We were so devastated but little did we know she left me $12k. A couple days later I received a letter in the mail saying that I had to use it to help pay for my tuition. I am looking to attend the nursing program at Lindenwood, Missouri State, or St. Louis University.
HELLO GUYS!!! I have something veryyyyyyyy important to tell you! After all of my stressing about FAFSA ( Free Application Federal Student Aid) , Colleges, and Transportation, I decided to further my education at Rowan University. It took me a long time to make this decision because this wasn’t my first choice! My first choice/ dream school was LIU Brooklyn ( Long Island University) in Brooklyn, New York. I was recently accepted there and planned on attending there, but their out-of-state tuition was extremely high! Their tuition was $33,000 a year and poor black man like myself, cannot afford it. I really loved LIU because it's a great school, beautiful campus, and most of all, it's in New York. I had my whole planned before it even started,
My ambition is to graduate St. Francis College as a Registered Nurse with a Bachelor’s degree in the upcoming years. Although majoring in nursing will not be easy, I feel I am prepared for the challenge. At this time in my life I cannot see myself majoring in anything else. As a young girl, with a mother working in the medical field, I was always fascinated going to work with her. Working in a doctor’s office these past two and a half years myself has given me much experience with patients and has made it more to clear to me that this is what I want to pursue as a career. I wish to be a nurse because I seem to get a feeling of warmth and internal satisfaction when helping those in need. I have begun to learn that medicine is not the only cure for people’s ailments. It is the care they receive by those around them whether it is in a hospital, nursing home, or even their own home. This is where I believe that I can make a great difference in people 's lives by helping them recover.
I have a lot of dreams. Dreams to change the world and do great things. My first dream is to receive my Bachelor of Science in Nursing, followed by working as a nurse for a few years to gain hands-on experience. Second, I intend to further my education by obtaining a Master’s degree and working on improving my skills, knowledge, and understandings of the nursing field. I want to be a nurse anesthetist. They administer anesthesia to patients. When I eventually retire, I intend on giving back to future generations of nurses by becoming a Nursing Instructor, educating them and watching them grow and develop into the best-equipped nurses they can be. As a result of my experiences in life, I am more mature, grounded, and I realize that even when
On September 14th, Temple University welcomed a very incredible lady, Wanda Benventti. Benvenutti is a photojournalist, writer, and photo editor. However, most importantly she is a woman that truly loves and is passionate about her Puerto Rican culture. I had the opportunity to watch her present her project, that she has been working on for 18 years. My goal as a journalist, is to become a photojournalist. Therefore, meeting Benvenutt gave me a sense of hope, that one day I will become a successful photojournalist. Watching her pictures flow by on the screen, gave me a sense of inspiration.
Ever since I graduated Luna National High School in 1987, I always wanted to be a nurse. Due to the high living expenses in the Philippines, I was not able to go to nursing school . It was expensive and my family was not able to make enough money to put me through nursing school. My sister was able to put me through college for an education degree instead because it much more inexpensive than nursing. In time, I moved to Honolulu,
My most prevailing goal during my college experience is to develop and improve my character so that I will be able to excel and succeed in my future career. I believe that my commitment to the common good these past few years has truly influenced my academic interest in pursuing a future career in Nursing. In college,
My Future Goal of Becoming a Registered Nurse From a very young age, I was fascinated by hospitals and everything that went on in them. I remember when I was little, visiting my Grandpa in the hospital and just being amazed by all the commotion in the halls, the beeps of the machines and the compassion my Grandpa’s nurse had while caring for him. It was then that I knew, I would become a nurse. 3 years ago, I had the privilege of attending the birth of my nephew.
Throughout my undergraduate career at NYU, I was very active in my extracurricular activities. As the president of four clubs in high school, I couldn’t stand back in college. I became the secretary of Hindu Students Council during my second semester. My leadership abilities led me to become the vice president the following semester. As the vice president, I ran the club. I held the typical events, such as biannual prayers, discussion sessions, Diwali and Holi. Along with those events, I created new events to attract more members to the club and connect them with the core meaning of Hinduism. My contribution not only led to the success of HSC as an organization, but also strengthened the sense of community within NYU.
The first time I stepped off the 30th Street Station Amtrak Train to walk over to the University of Pennsylvania, I was nervous. I had fallen in love with Penn online, but like a scary blind date, what if the school was not actually how it seemed? What if I did not find the school’s community inviting, especially as a minority? What if I did not love eating from Wawa or the abundant food trucks? My father smiled at my vocalized worries as we walked the 0.8 miles down Market Street and Woodland Walk. He knew something I did not yet. That was that there was no way I could not fall in love with the University of Pennsylvania. As I strolled onto Penn’s campus and stepped onto Locust Walk, I found out how life at Penn is not one’s destination, but only the beginning of their pivotal journey.
