Spirituality involves treating the whole person. It encompasses the physical aspects, the emotional aspects along with the social and spiritual aspects of an individual. However, with the advances seen in technology there has been a refocus of medicine from it’s caring, service oriented model to more of a technically oriented model that focuses on a cure. (Baylor University Medical Center Proceedings). There are good components of both of these models however encompassing them both would provide a more well rounded approach to treating the entire person today.
Pluralism is an existence of coexisting. It encompasses a diverse group of views rather that

Society has progressed both socially and technologically as has medicine. This includes our understanding of health and healing as evidenced by Dossey’s three eras of medicine. Era 1, beginning in the 1800’s, reflected the prevailing view that health and illness are totally physical in nature and therapies included surgical procedures and drugs. Era 2, starting in the 1950’s, related to the mind and body. Practitioners began to realize that emotions and feelings can impact health. Era 3, still developing today, began in the 1990’s and builds on the previous eras by adding the spirit and proposes that consciousness is not confined to one’s
Worldview is regarded as the crucial basis of reality and is dominant among culture. It consists of classes, norms as well as values that provide an overview by which is observed as an overview that people use to examine the universe. As a result of unique wide perspective associated with worldview that everybody has, there are evidences of similarities within communities, family setups and among the culture. (Shelly, 2006). Worldview can also be influenced by the spiritual nature of individuals as this requires a consideration so as to take a person’s holistic care. These postmodern and scientific models of philosophy are the current factor that hinders the total spiritual approval in healthcare. Faith in me
Accompanying with the enormous technological progress, medicine as a modern science has been affected in many positive ways. However, the timeless tradition and the everlasting secret of medicine is merely care giving. Modern medicine has been relying too much on technology, which is cool, but also very cold from a humanistic aspect. All the patients are presented by a series of numbers via binary signals of the internet. Nowadays, medicine is more about running tests and diagnosing based on numbers, as opposed to investigating symptoms upon the physician’s observational skills and comprehensive knowledge. As bedside caring becomes less concerned as it was in the old days, the diminishing of the sense of caring in medical professionals appears as a side effect. There is no doubt that technology enables medical professionals to perform all types of fancy tasks, though it is their offering of compassion that comforts the patients the most. And this quintessence of medical practice ought not to be overlooked at any point of the history of medicine.
There are numerous definitions and interpretations of what spirituality means. A person’s interpretation of spirituality is based on the individual and their culture. Spirituality is ultimately what brings meaning and purpose to someone’s life; it is not just about religion and prayers. It gives them hope and something to believe in no matter what their situation or status is in life. Patients have a right to believe in whatever they choose and nurses must respect their patient’s spiritual beliefs as we respect their cultural beliefs. We must support their spiritual preferences and attend to their spiritual needs. Holistic nursing views the patient’s spiritual

“Patients are biological, psychological, social, and spiritual entities who present at a particular developmental stage. The whole patient (body, mind, and spirit)
Two of the three models of health and healing discussed by Dossey (1999) were Era II Body/Mind Model of the 1950s and Era III Body/Mind/Spirit Model of the 1990s. According to Dossey (1999), post World War II the Medical Doctors noticed that there was proof that the functioning of the human body can be affected by other factors such as stress and emotions which, can lead to diseases such as ulcers and high blood pressure. This model brought to light the realization that treating the human body is complex because when the physical body is not well the mentation of the patient is affected resulting in exacerbation of other
The new insights increased sensitivity to others needs, an example is that the clinicians learning to listen attentively to not only to the manifest of patients, but the unexpressed or expression avoided.
The inception of the “Healing Hospital” is not new. Healing hospitals in various forms have been around throughout history. As hospitals were slowly taken over by religious orders they became more holistic concentrating on all aspects of healing including physical, mental, and spiritual. Instead of focusing on the patient as a carrier of disease and death they began to look at them as a person that has certain fundamental needs for existence. One of these needs as fore mentioned is spirituality. Spirituality simply defined “is that which relates to or affects the human spirit or soul as opposed to material or physical things. Spirituality touches that part of you that is not dependent on material things or physical comforts” (Living Words
When a patient enters the healthcare setting the primary focus is the process of helping the patient get better. Patient care has emerged into the healing hospital paradigm. This new focus is on patient care and not just the disease process. Healthcare organizations are now recognizing that the latest research demonstrates the benefits of a healing environment. Healthcare providers need to reach people on a personal level. The concept of the healing hospital paradigm research reveals that specific design changes in healthcare
Traditional hospitals using standard medical treatment and Western-educated personnel tend to treat the patient's physical being while ignoring other equally important aspects of the patient and the caregiver. Fortunately, healing hospitals have transformed the concept of healing through the principle of "Radical Love." Recognizing the equal importance of physical, mental, emotional and spiritual wellbeing for all members of the hospital environment, Radical Love enhances the entire wellbeing of the entire community.
Pluralism is a worldview in which the society members structure their culture based on acceptance and diversity. These common traits all strive for the common good of all and also realize there is some truth in other beliefs (Pluralism, 2015). This worldview stresses the importance of tolerance of other religions but does not however deviate from their own beliefs.
Increasingly, the marketplace is being used as a tool to fight forces of discrimination, as consumers are ceasing to patronize companies that support racist, sexist, homophobic, and other intolerant individuals. (maybe cite this) Amma's healing room is a place where the members of the community can solve spiritual qualms, as well as personal ones - Amma is a healer primarily, but she is also a friend to many of her patients. Her healing room thus offers a space for patients to find the spiritual healing they desire, and likewise a space to connect with her and with the broader community in one tight-knit area.
For many people, health is of upmost priority in order to survive. However, it is inevitable that at one point in time people become sick and must seek medical attention. This situation creates emotions of stress and vulnerability which can hinder the healing process. Medical professionals must take this into consideration in order to provide the ultimate healing environment. A healing hospital will not only provide the patient with an optimal environment but also aid in speeding up the recovery rate. Creating a healing hospital is a fundamental process however, can be extremely difficult. This paper will examine the components of a healing hospital, the challenges of creating a healing hospital, as well as biblical aspects
Each person has a different view of the world. As people grow up, culture, religion, experiences, and society helps people grow and develop their beliefs on how they see the world. Healthcare has developed rapidly with advance technology and this has started to create a separation on bring the necessary spiritual caring into patient care. It is important to understand the seven basic worldview questions because it will help to understand worldview.
