Over 42 million babies are killed in a year because of abortion. That is 115,000 deaths a day. After the case Roe vs Wade was presented to the Supreme Court, abortions have been legal since. In the United States, the topic abortion is very debatable. Many people think that abortion should be illegal because of moral and religious views, while others think that abortion should be legal because of women's’ rights. Despite each view, abortions are becoming more and more common today, especially in the United States. Abortions should be illegal because it is the murder of a human, selfish, and problematic to women's health. What is abortion? “Abortion, expulsion of the products of conception before the embryo or fetus is viable”(“abortion”). …show more content…
¨Out of 42 million abortions annually, only 1% abortions are caused by rape or incest. 6% are performed because of health issues. However, 93% of abortions occur because the child is unwanted or is an inconvenience¨("Abortion Facts| Facts on Abortion | Abortion Facts and Statistics”). People in the world kill 39,060,000 babies a year just because they are inconvenient. Babies don't have a voice to speak out or give their opinion. But, their mothers, make the decisions for them. The decision is to die. An article named ¨Abortion¨ on Gale Literary Devices states that ¨The idea of choice—that a woman has a right to choose what she does with her body—comes in here. But is this right greater than a fetus’s right to life?”(“Abortion”) The answer is no. Everyone has their own right to speak for themselves, so should the fetus. Another example of how selfish abortion is, is this, “A controversy began in 1988 over a drug, developed in France, called RU 486, which, when taken during the first seven weeks of pregnancy, causes the embryo to become detached from the uterus. The drug was reported to safer and less expensive than surgical abortion”(“Abortion” 11). In the quote, the drug is apparently safer and less expensive. The drug that makes you basically birth a dead baby is safer and less expensive for the woman. So, the woman chooses a pill that is very destructive and painful for the baby, but it is
Twenty to thirty million legal abortions occur worldwide each year. The greatest destroyer of peace is abortion because if a mother can kill her own child, what is left for me to kill you and you to kill me? There is nothing between – (Mother Teresa). Before 1973, individual states were allowed to decide whether abortion would be legal within their borders. The topic of abortion and whether or not it is right or wrong is a constant debate in todays society. Everyone has their own beliefs on the matter, but it should not be a question of what we believe, it should be the question of whether or not this procedure should be considered an illegal act. There are hundreds of woman everyday that have an abortion, and hundreds of innocent lives being slaughtered legally. The fact that this procedure is legal in the U.S, and that people actually see it as their “choice” or “right” to abort the baby, disturbs me immensely. Preforming the procedure of an abortion should be illegal in all states because abortion is murder, the fetuses can feel the pain during the procedure, and abortion can lead to psychological damage.
Abortion is one the most controversial topics in the United States. The issue at hand is should abortion be legal or not. It is highly debated with in both media and politics. According to History Channel, “Supreme Court legalizes abortion”, in 1973 the U.S. Supreme Court Case Roe V. Wade ruled that women have the constitutional right to privacy, thus legalizing abortion. This law gave women the right to terminate a pregnancy during the first two trimesters. This sparked huge controversy between pro-life and pro-choice believers. Both pro-life and pro-choice have numerous arguments to justify their opinions. In a report done by WebMD, “Abortion-Reasons Women Choose Abortion,” nine out of ten abortions are performed within the first twelve weeks. Abortion should be legal because it is a women’s constitutional right, mental and physical health, and other.
Every 3 minutes, 9 innocent babies will have been aborted in the U.S. alone. Approximately 93% of women state they have abortions due to ‘social reasons’(inconvenient, unwanted), and less than 1% of abortions occur due to rape/incest. On behalf of the decision of the Roe v. Wade ruling, which made abortion legal during all nine months of pregnancy in 1973, there have been 56,993,299 documented abortions. “In 2000 [alone], more children died from abortion than Americans died in the Revolutionary War, the Civil War, World Wars I and II, the Korean, Vietnam, and Gulf Wars combined” (“Abortion Statistics”). Being pro-life should be the only option for women due to homicide, health risks, and the violation of civil and human rights.
The United States has been divided now over the issue of abortion for thirty-three years since the Supreme Court’s ruling in Roe v. Wade in 1973. As of today, over 45 million legal abortions have been performed in the United States. Pro-choice advocates hold these 45 million abortions as being 45 million times women have exercised their right to choose to get pregnant and to choose to control their own bodies. To pro-life, or anti-abortion, advocates these 45 million abortions constitute 45 million murders, a genocide of human life in the United States propagated by the court’s ruling in Roe v. Wade. The debate over abortion in the United States is thus a debate of two extremes. One side argues from the personal liberty of the mother. The
“The expulsion of a fetus from the uterus by natural causes before it is able to survive independently” (Oxford University Press).
Each year there are roughly 6 million pregnancies in the U.S., with 20% resulting in the termination of the fetus, or abortion in other terms. Mathematically, that is estimated to be 1.2 million babies that have no hope for a future outside the womb (American Pregnancy). Everyone has a right to life; this right is exercised in many parts of the American life, namely the Declaration of Independence (The Abortion Controversy 113-116). Therefore, the United States’ federal government should go to greater lengths to prohibit these so called ‘abortions’ in every case, regardless of the situation. It matters not what the women who get these abortions think, and it matters to many that this is looked upon to be immoral (Guttmacher, The Abortion
On January 22, 1973, the Supreme Court’s decision of Roe v. Wade to legalize abortions in the United States began the controversial debate about abortion that has continued to dominate current ethical and political debates. Over fifty-two million abortions have been performed legally in the United States from 1973 to 2010 (Ertelt). Even with scientific advancements showing fetus development, abortions are still performed on 21% of all pregnancies in America according to a national statistic in 2011. Currently there are about 1 million abortions in the United States each year (“Abortions in America”). With the exception of saving a mother’s life, abortion should be completely illegal in
closely proceeded by the expulsion of the embryo or fetus as a spontaneous death of a human fetus during the first 83 days of miscarriage, the induced expulsion of a human fetus, or the expulsion of a fetus by a wild animal often due to
“One in three U.S. women will have an abortion in her lifetime. In America two percent of women between 15-44 will get an abortion each year.”(Sharples) Abortion is the act of stopping a pregnancy intentionally, so that the child is not born. Abortion is controversial due to it being a morally and ethically gray area. The most important question is whether or not abortion is morally wrong. If morality wasn’t enough, we then have to ask ethical questions. There are two main groups in this debate: pro-life and pro-choice Pro-life believes that intentional abortion is wrong, while the pro-choice side believes that intentional abortion is acceptable in some circumstances. Due to this controversy abortion has become a popular topic in the debates of the masses.
Imagine the world where abortion is not portrayed as some “cruel” or “ungodly act”, but a way for families/females to save their future children from suffering from a disease, ailment, emotional distress, or not having the necessary means to be taken care of properly. Say that you are an expecting mother, and you get told by a doctor that your baby has a high chance of dying, will have a severe disability, or that you yourself could be at risk. You have the choice to either terminate the pregnancy or go through with it knowing the risks and emotional pain that could come with it. You may not want to think about it but the cold, hard truth is that abortion has many benefits for both the mother and the fetus as well. Like saving the mother from
Abortion is the termination of a pregnancy resulting in the death of the embryo or fetus.
“Every year in the world, there are an estimated 40-50 million abortions. This corresponds to approximately 125,000 abortions per day” (WorldOMeters ). Abortion is a choice for a woman “with child “ , usually during the first 28 weeks of pregnancy when the baby , also known as a fetus is terminated, or in other words killed. Abortion should be illegal because abortion is murder, and counteracts fundamental rights.
The word of God says in Psalm 127:3 “Behold, children are a heritage from the Lord, the fruit of the womb a reward.” So why do people feel the need to abort these virtuous babies? If the act of murder is a crime, then why aren’t there more women in jail?
For many years, women who terminate their pregnancy have been silently and verbally judged. Abortion is one the world's most common surgical procedures. About 46 million abortions are performed every year, 20 million of these are done illegally. Abortion is practiced widely by women all over the world, across all social classes, regardless of laws against abortion. Since the beginning of recorded history, abortion has been commonly practiced by almost all societies, including ancient China, Egypt, Greece, Rome, and countless others. In fact, abortion could be called a fundamental aspect of human behaviour. It wasn’t until 1973 when the Roe v. Wade law was passed that abortion became legal. Many consider abortion to be murder however, it is justified by the Roe vs. Wade law,
“‘Please forgive me, and if you can, help me to forgive myself. The knowledge that I ended your life is almost more than I can bear. Her sobbing nearly overwhelmed her as she read her signature: ‘Your Mother.’” (Dube). A mother wrote to her son that she has aborted years before, in this letter she asks her son to forgive her and that she has been living with great guilt ever since her decision. Abortion is never the best option there are always many other choices. Some people believe that abortion is needed because most cases are due to medical emergency but the facts are less than 1% of abortions are due to medical reasons. Abortions should be illegal because there are other options, it harms the mother physically and mentally and most abortions
