A metaanalysis of 8 studies that analyze the use of text-messaging interventions on continued adherence to antiretroviral therapy (ART). The 10-page research found that treatment groups which received text messages were more likely to remain compliant with ART compared to control groups that did not receive text-messages. The study elaborates that intervention programs that texted less frequently, but contained content tailored to the recipient’s individual needs, were more likely to be successful. 3. Text messaging is an easy and fast way of communicating with patients and it allows patients to reply instantly. It is also inexpensive in that it cuts down in paper and postage. The Chicago Department of Public health exemplifies a public health department that is extremely proactive and supportive of initiatives to eradicate or significantly decreasing the incidence of STI/HIV /AIDS in the City of Chicago. To this end, the Chicago Department of Health monitors the incidences of new cases in the city, while constantly monitoring the progression or regression of the conditions of patients already affected by the HIV virus. For example, in a 2014 article by Leadership +, it was noted providers were turning to “texting” as ways to improve quality and reduce costs in management of population health (Wagner, 2014). Many patients are exhausted from their illnesses, answering calls and replying to texts can be overwhelming. Also their next of kin, after spending a tiresome day at the hospital they then ring repeating the same message on updates on how the patients doing. It's not only patients who are overwhelmed with messages
We then conclude in the study that since the null hypothesis is rejected, text message follow up appointment attendance is greater compared to reminder calls follow up at the 0.05 level of significance.
Finally, another negative aspect of texting is the addiction it can cause. In 2005 a nineteen year old male was sent to an addiction rehab center for texting and emailing. The patient went through multiple counseling sessions in an attempt to cure his addiction. He had lost his job after sending over an average of five hundred emails per day. In addition, he lost his relationship with his girlfriend due to the excessive emails and texts. He was addicted. “He was suffering from severe anxiety when he wasn't getting any reply, which was causing him to text and email even more,” said Phillip Irvine, project leader of Renfrew Council on Alcohol trust, where the unnamed man is being treated (Booth 2005). Irvine continued to say that many more people

Considering the stigma, confusion, and fear surrounding the transmission of the HIV virus, many major organizations neglected to communicate the dangers of the virus or effective methods of reducing viral transmission.
