I should avoid to put two ideas in one question, each idea should have its own question. I have to select my population in a manner that I ask the relevant people in order to avoid population definition error and sampling frame error. I should not target SIU students when I wanted to select business owners in the City of Carbondale. This will help me not survey the wrong people. Furthermore, I should avoid leading questions and asking wrong questions. I have to ask relevant questions that will provide me with relevant answers to my questionnaire. I have to avoid using broad terms when developing questions because respondents might misinterpret the questions. I should avoid limiting answer options. Providing more answer options gives respondents a pool from which they can select their preferred answers unlike when I channel them to only two options. The problem I had was that some questions needed follow-up questions while others needed preceding questions.

The questions hit the target of my topic that is, they are both valid and reliable. They are relevant to the topic and are asked to the relevant people. The questions focus on business owners’ satisfaction, permitting and application process, and the demographics of the business owners. If the permitting and application process is effective and efficient, that will increase the business owners’ level of satisfaction hence improve relations between the City of Carbondale and business owners.
