“Anne Frank is a Jewish girl who has to go into hiding during World War Two to escape from the Nazis … After more than two years in hiding they are discovered and deported to concentration camps … After her death Anne becomes world famous because of the diary she wrote while in hiding” (annefrank.org). Anne Frank was a young girl who had a bright future, but it was taken away from her by the Nazi’s and Holocaust. Before the Holocaust, Anne Frank was just the typical young girl. During the Holocaust, she had to adapt to a dangerous situation. Then, after her death, she has left a legacy that has impacted the hearts of many. It was the cause of death to nearly 11 million people, and six million consisted of Jews. The Franks took all the precautionary measures possible to keep themselves, but they could only do so much to defer the inevitability. The first major precaution was going into hiding. The Franks would hide in an apartment along with another family for two years. The United States Holocaust Memorial Museum states, “During the first half of July, Anne and her family went into hiding in an apartment which would eventually hide four Dutch Jews as well—Hermann, Auguste, and Peter van Pels, and Fritz Pfeffer” (ushmm.org). In July of 1942 the Franks went into hiding. They were unaware that they would spend two years in the secret hiding place. Biography.com writes, “The families spent two years in hiding, never once stepping outside the dark, damp, sequestered portion of the building” (biography.com). The amount of annoyance of not leaving the same place in two years would be immense. On August 4th, 1944 the Franks and everyone with them were discovered and arrested. Annefrank.org states, “The people in hiding are caught completely off guard. They have lived with the anxiety of being discovered for more than two years and now it is happening” (annefrank.org).
