Credit cards have become increasingly popular world-wide, making it easier to buy now and pay later but are they actually helping or hindering someone’s credit? “Maxed Out” by James D. Scurlock demonstrates how credit cards can hurt someone’s credit, while “Why Won’t Anyone give Me a Credit Card” by Kevin O’Donnell demonstrates how someone may have financial stability to pay off a credit card, but still be consistently denied one by the credit card companies. Owning credit cards is not the problem; the problem is being irresponsible with it.

Avoiding debt is a popular concept among younger population, and it is a very reasonable personal decision. However, most of us will need a credit at some point in life – to get a mortgage, for instance.

In 2012, I accepted a position at the Wisconsin Credit Union League (WCUL) as a Compliance Specialist. The WCUL (or “The League”) is a dues-supported trade association for Wisconsin credit unions that are cooperatively owned by more than 2.7 million members. The primary purpose of the organization is to serve Wisconsin credit unions by promoting the “credit union difference” through advocacy, education, and public service. However, The League also serves as a non-profit organization promoting the wellness of credit unions and the communities in which they serve. This includes, but is not limited to: promoting credit union development, educating credit union staff and volunteers, promoting financial literacy, and supporting the overall credit union system in times of need. Respectively, being employed on the profit-side of the organization is not only critical to The League, but the Wisconsin credit unions as well. It is my belief that maintaining an understanding of the organization and remaining committed to its overall mission and values (on both the profit and non-profit side) are essential for success.

Banks are institutions in which people put their money for safekeeping, to save, to use to pay their bills, or to earn interest on. Banks are allowed to use that money to make loans and earn interest for the bank's’ owners. Different types of banks offer different types of services. For example, commercial banks originally just served businesses, and savings banks and credit unions were used by individuals, especially those who couldn’t qualify for loans at regular banks. This is no longer the case. Although commercial banks and thrift institutions used to serve different purposes, today they all offer many of the same types of services including bank accounts, loans, credit, certificates of deposits (CDs), and much more.

In order to be eligible for membership you must live, work, worship or attend school in any of the following areas, Memphis Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA), Dyer County, Madison County, and North Nashville. First South Financial was founded in 1957. It was originally established to serve the personnel on the Naval base in Millington, they have grown into one of the strongest and safest financial institutions in the entire nation, according to all independent rating agencies. They have locations throughout the Mid South along with a full suite of electronic products

AmeriTrust Bank is a very known southern bank. It is amongst the top 20 banks in the United States and the top 20 financial institutes in Florida. The bank is 126 years old forming in 1891, at the time it was known as Trust of Georgia. It was granted a charter by Georgia General Assemble, it was founded by a group of men that named the bank Trust of Georgia after restructuring itself as a trust company. The Predecessor of AmeriTrust was founded in 1911 as the people’s Local Bank. In 1920 it became The First Local Bank but due to the Great Depression it failed in the 1930’s. Reorganizing itself in 1934 as The First National Bank at Orlando and in the 1970’s it merged with other Orlando Banks to become Ameri Bank.

United States Credit Union is very proud of their relationship with Talent Plus for a variety of reasons.

In the end, my in-laws shredded the solicitation for incoming water line insurance as did both my husband and I with our AARP membership offers. AARP seems more interested in their self-interests rather than that of their members. I will no doubt find more membership requests from this organization in the mail in the future.
