Wk 8 Discussion 1 - Assumptions [due Thurs] Due Thursday Frankfort-Nachmias and Leon-Guerrero (2018) explain that “several assumptions are required” in statistical hypothesis testing. Write a 250- to 300-word response to the following: Explain what this statement means in your own words. What assumptions might be present in your dissertation study work? Burdess (2010) states a hypothesis is a testable prediction about a population and hypothesis testing is used to determine how likely the prediction is accurate. According to Frankfort-Nachmias et al (2019), there are a few assumptions required for statistical hypothesis testing and they are: considerations of the level of measurement of the variable, the method of sampling, the shape of the population distribution and the sample size. In addition, all statistical tests assume random sampling without exception. Regression analysis is a statistical technique for determining the relationship between a single dependent variable and one or more independent variables (Palmer & O'Connell, 2009). Assumption in regression analysis are: the chosen sample is representative of the population, there is a linear relationship between the independent and independent variables, all variables are normally distributed, and there are no outliers. In regression analysis is when the predictor variable is experimentally manipulated and the response variable is the measured outcome. (Palmer & O'Connell, 2009). In my mock study, I used regression analysis to understand the relationship between the output variable, or response (bachelor’s degree or higher) and input variable, or factor (socioeconomic index). I believe in my research dissertation study, I will make assumptions about what I believe to be true as I build up my research, statements I believe to be true, even if temporarily until the research concludes. My assumptions will be able to be verified during the course of the research study. For example, when using instruments such as surveys during the research, I would assume that participants will be truthful when answering the questions. Burdess, N. (2010).
