John 1:1-23 Questions Charlotte Abernathy 1. John (the writer of the Gospel) uses the phrases “the Word” and “the Light” to describe Jesus. What do these descriptions of Jesus mean? These descriptions mean that Jesus is our Savior, and he speaks the truth of God. 2. How do people portray Jesus today? What are some of the common ideas about Jesus in our culture and society? Many nonbelievers often see Jesus as another false god who was worshipped in ancient times. Christians today see Jesus as the Savior who died on the cross for our sins. A common idea about Jesus is that he was a man who taught people about himself and the teachings he had to offer. 3. Who is John the Baptist, and what was his purpose? John the Baptist was a witness to testify about the Light of Jesus. His purpose was to spread the good news about Jesus and all He has done for us. 4. How can you apply the lessons in these verses to your life? I can apply these lessons by trusting God knowing that He has a plan, even when I cannot see it. He is stronger and wiser than me and wants the best for me. 5. Write down 1 promise in these verses that encourages you. “I have seen this spirit descending as a dove out of heaven.” This verse encourages me because I once saw God as a child, and I am reminded of how amazing and how wonderful of a Creator we have. He is so mighty and powerful!
