Statement of Culture and Social Orientations in the Case Study For this case if the student was an exchange student from Europe this case could have turned out differently. If it were an exchange student I think Dr Karry would have taken it even further and actually engage in a sexual relationship with the student. Being an exchange student they may not fully understand and take their actions just as kindness and that is the normal thing that is done. After the student ends the relationship she will report Dr. Karry to the ethics committee and his license may be taken. Statement of Dual Relationships or Multiple Relationship Issues in the Study This case did not have multiple or dual relationships. In this case it was a student supervisor relationship The Ethical Decision-Making Model (Eight-Step Model) 1. Determine whether the matter truly involves ethics The ethical conflict in this case is that Dr.Karry wrote the paper for Erica and then in turn reported Erica for plagiarism. There was no romantic relationship but I think Dr Karry thought things were heading in that direction. According to Koocher & Spiegel (2008) there are several underlying characteristics that professionals can have that could led them to make unprofessional and unethical decisions. The two that seemed to apply to this case are that the professional wants some sort of retaliation because they feel they have been wronged, and the professional may have a difference stance on boundaries than other professionals (p. 9). These apply to this case because Dr.Karry was upset that Erica requested a new supervisor, so he reported her plagiarism. 2. Consult guidelines already available that might apply as a possible mechanism for resolution According to Koogel & Spiegel (2008) professionals should not go into a multiple relationship if their “objectivity,competence, or effectiveness in performing their professional functions could become impaired or if a risk of exploitation might result” (p. 265)

Consult with a trusted colleague The ethics committee that Dr Karry reported to were questioning his mental stability 5. Evaluate the rights,responsibilities, and vulnerability of all affected parties Erica as the student had the right to request a new supervisor when she felt uncomfortable with Dr. Karry. It was the responsibility of Dr Karry to set boundaries and know the boundaries between student and supervisor. 6. Generate alternative decisions Erica should be put on some sort of probabtiob 7. Enumerate the consequences of making each decision Erica should not have supported the paper Dr Karry wrote. 8. Make the decision Dr Karry should go under some sort of psychological evaluation and have his classes etc monitored for a time An Alternative Decision-Making Model For an alternative decision making model I used ACED IT which stands for Assess, Create, Evaluate, Decide, Implement, and Test. Assessing the situation: in this case Dr Karry was giving his student Erica extra attention and help and even wrote a paper for her. When Erica began to get uncomfortable and requested a new supervisor Dr Karry became angry and reported Erica to the ethics board for plagiarism. Create Choices :Dr Karry should be punished for writing the paper, but Erica should be punished as well for submitting the paper Evaluate choices using filters : Both parties are at fault and should be punished accordingly. I don't think Dr Karry should have reported Erica to the ethics committee Decide:: Dr Karry should go through training for boundaries and get a little psychological evaluation done and how to handle situations .Erica should be put on some sort of probation
