What was the main goal of this policy?
The main goal of HIPAA is to address how we use and disclose individuals’ health information. HIPAA also contains the standards for how individuals’ rights are to be controlled and used(2022). Has this policy been amended since it was first enacted?
HIPAA has been changed hundreds of times since 1996, including multiple sections to include the Public Health Services Act, Employee Retirement Income Security Act, and the Social Security Act(n.d.). What is the public’s opinion of this policy?
Public opinion of HIPAA as a whole is strongly supported by the public because they want their information to be protected and for there to be consequences when their information is not protected. Do you think this policy has been effective in accomplishing its goals?
HIPAA has given healthcare organizations the resources they need to make changes. These changes have led
to improved efficiency, better patient care, and profitability(n.d.).
What changes would you suggest to this policy to make it more effective, or to make it achieve its intended goals?
The first change that I would want to make is removing barriers that limit research. The second change to make
would be to improve the ability of informed consent to protect privacy.
