Their subclaims include the issue of large corporations, and agribusinesses who unequally lay out deals within the trade industry that disproportionately distribute goods across nations, which result in tremendous amounts of waste in some areas and poverty and hunger in others. Another subclaim is the unjust exploitation of land and large land projects that are impacting farmers all over the world, all led by politics. These decisions are transforming the agriculture business into a low-cost opportunity while destroying the lives of small-town farmers. The War on Want organization’s warrant are the six pillars of food sovereignty which uphold ethical values equally amongst all and ensure that access to food is a human right. The organization's decision to provide a platform to voice the struggles of those without access to media has increased the support and willingness to fight for change in
2 the global food system. The support received from farmers, landowners, as well as other global outreaches have built up their cause and provide the numbers which show the decline in health, disadvantages in access to food, as well as amount of land available as a result of deforestation. The statistics given in regard to the world's agricultural land and the amount used by the corporate agricultural system support their claim in the inadequate use of land and the burden it places on the farmers as well as the supply chain. By introducing the idea of food sovereignty to people, this organization educates on the right to food rather than a struggle due to income or class. NICOA (National Indian Council on Aging) asserts on poor diets being a more frequent cause of death and claims that lack of access to healthy foods is one of the primary causes of low-income deaths. One of their subclaims is the lack of access to grocery stores with fresh produce and enriching nutrients leads to malnutrition as well as decline in the vitamins and nutrients in one's body. Many tribal, indigenous communities are located in rural areas in which the nearest grocery store is a long way from their home. By implementing local, affordable markets we can ensure that they are supplementing with the nutrients their body needs. Another subclaim is that food production and a good relationship with the land is vital for indigenous tribes' health.
3 They rely on the land for herbal medicines as well as specialized diets that help them live in rural conditions. NICOA is aimed to inform people worldwide about these injustices and restore food sovereignty to indigenous and low-income communities. They inform and partner with communities to learn about their first-hand accounts and effects that lack of food control has had on them and their people. Food sovereignty allows for the production of fresh produce, effective distribution, and farming by their own means and needs. By giving control to what people produce and allowing the community to contribute to the agricultural aspect it brings in sustainable nutrients as well as a healthy balance amongst the community. NICOA partners with native Americans and the Hispanic community to assess the root issues and from there undergo through action plans and projects to better the community. By restoring the ability to decide food production and distribution there is a healthy relationship between communities and the land.
