The hot water was the only one without floating specs. 2 C 9 1 min 55 sec This go around I think the water was colder so it took a bit longer to dissolve. 2 RT 25 54.18 This time was under a minute and it was faster even though it was the same temperature as the last time. 2 H 52 25.49 sec It was around the same time this go around. 3 C 10 2 min 13 sec It took longer this time even though the temperature was close. 3 RT 20 53.79 sec This one by far was the fastest out of all of them and it left less things at the top. 3 H 50 24.34 sec This one by far was the fastest and it dissolved fast. Avg. C 10.3 2 min 13 sec Most of the attemps it was shown that it was all around the same time and that it took longer. Avg. RT 23.3 1 min 17 sec The room temp has a fluctuation and it was in the middle of both. Avg. H 50.67 26 sec This one by far the fastest in all of the tests. 1. 2 2. What are the two variables that you graphed? 1. Time and the temp 3. Which is the independent variable? Should it be on the X- or Y-axis? Why? The independent variable was the Alka-seltzer, it should be on the x axis because it was the make or break. 4. Which is the dependent variable? Should it be on the X- or Y-axis? Why? The dependent was the water because depending on the water is how fast or how slow it dissolved. 5. Predict how many seconds it will take to dissolve an Alka-Seltzer ® tablet in 200 mL of water at the following temperatures. Use the exponential trend line to find the function used in predicting the time. If needed, please refer to the Introduction to Graphing manual for guidance. a. 35°C b. 60°C c. 80°C Activity 2 6. List five questions about the rate at which Alka-Seltzer ® tablets dissolve if the temperature was held constant and one of the controlled variables was changed. If the temperature is higher do it dissolve faster? If the temperature is in the negatives does it dissolve at all? What is the average amount of time it takes to dissolve in a body? Can we predict the temp and change? Is there a perfect temp? 7. Develop a new hypothesis based on one of the questions. Remember that a hypothesis must be testable with empirical or measurable data.
