Change Management Performance Assessment April Knight Western Governors University
A.  Discuss the need for change for the company in the scenario using either the systems contingency model or the organizational life cycle model. Based on the Organizational Life-cycle Model, the business is just barely out of its youth, in Collectivity Stage 2, as it has only been in operation for 10 years, so still has many years of life left as long as any challenges are properly addressed in a timely manner. The primary focus has been on growing the business up to this point, and now that it has reached an international level, the need for training and development is becoming more apparent. In order to maintain their success, and continue to grow, they will need clear direction to understand what they are striving to accomplish, and what they will need to do to achieve it. B.  Describe the differences ( at least two ) between a learning organization and a traditional organization. A traditional organization is more closed-minded, with assigned leaders making all of the decisions, and everyone beneath them having no voice. There is no flexibility, and they are not willing to consider doing things differently, or hear how beneficial it may be to change, because they have been doing things the same way for so long without any problems, so why should they change it? This is very different from a learning organization, where they believe in transparency, and empower the employees to make decisions and share ideas that could improve their way of doing things. Learning organizations give employees a chance to contribute beyond their assigned day-to-day responsibilities, and in turn, enable the company to continuously improve and be more competitive in the market, whereas traditional organizations limit their employees to what they were hired to do, and do not offer any opportunities for them to develop new skills and contribute more to the growth and success of the company.
1. Identify which stage of Woolner’s 5-stage model the company is currently in. In Woolner’s 5- stage Model, the company is currently in Stage 3: The Mature Organization. a. Explain why the company is currently in the identified stage of Woolner’s 5- stage model. They have been in operation for 10 years, and have been more focused on growth during that time than anything else, and now that they have grown so rapidly, they are starting to see how critical learning and development are to their continued success. This aligns with Stage 3 of Woolner’s 5-stage model, which is the mature organization that values learning as integral to the company’s growth. 2. Explain how the company from the scenario would use Senge’s 5 disciplines to become a learning organization. Systems Thinking should be encouraged, so that each member of the team, whether employee or leader, sees themselves as part of the whole, and all functions and departments collaborate with one another, and rely on one another to get the job done. No one person is to blame, they win together, and they fail together. Next, they would implement programs and learning opportunities so employees of all levels could strive for continuous improvement and Personal Mastery because, according to Senge, “organizations learn only through individuals who learn” (Acrobatiq, 2022). The Mental Models Discipline would be a chance to redefine the leadership and organizational structure by taking a step back and looking at the way things have been done in the past, and how it can be improved moving forward. Personal Mastery and Mental Models are used to create a Shared Vision, where each member of the team are equally committed to the overall success and achievement of the team and organization. The selection of all employees should be determined based on how they will complement and fit with the remainder of the team. Team Learning will be established by developing a culture where each member of the organization function as a part of one whole, they rely on one another, and work better together than apart.
