11. Before Haley decides to write his loved ones, what thoughts and images to through his mind as he reflects on the meaning of Thanksgiving? What is the connection between these traditional images and what Hely finally realizes? Haley pictured the historic imagery of the Pilgrims, Indians, wild turkeys, pumpkins, and corn on the cob in his thoughts. Haley finally realized the key to his mind questing for something else is reversing the world “Thanksgiving” to the word “Giving thanks.” 12. Alex Haley was far from home when he decided to thank the important people in his life. If he had remained at home, do you think he would still have thanked these people? Why or why not? Haley would not have expressed gratitude towards the significant individuals in his life if he had remained at home, as he would have taken their efforts for granted.
